SHIRLEY ROSE COCKBURN
NORTHERN ONTARIO ARTIST
I am a progressive artist working in a multitude of mediums – the last few years have been spent working mostly in acrylics on canvas, masonite boards, and tree free paper.
I have twenty years of continuous studies and experience ranging from calligraphy, papermaking and crafting books in Singapore, working towards my BA in Arts at Nipissing University, and extensive online art courses through well renowned Canadian artist Johannes Vloothius, and New Zealand artist Richard Robinson. I have an insatiable appetite for knowledge, especially when it relates to art forms, as I always strive to improve my work, tis the plight of the artist’s life.
My work attempts to capture the serenity of Northern Ontario’s landscapes through a representational style. I like to portray simple yet refined paintings because life is better understood by each and every one of us when all the cacophony and materialism of our societies are removed.
I want people who look at my work to be drawn into the beauty of our landscapes and to feel the tranquility engulf them as they remember how utterly wonderful life is when we walk hand in hand with nature.
My art is displayed at Northland Traders Trading Post in Temagami from early May to late October. My working studio is in Sturgeon Falls, Ontario. You can visit my blog, or contact me at [email protected] for further information. www.shirleyrose.blogspot.com
