Lauraine Laframboise
Upon looking back at her earlier pieces, Lauraine concedes that while there has been growth in her work, she hopes to continue to improve and evolve as a visual artist. At the moment her interest has been most entrenched in dry pastel although she is venturing back towards working with wood.
Vernissage: May 5th, 2013

Canson Mi-teinte
Cet enfant avait des grandes responsabilités à un âge précoce. Forte détermination est évidente dans ses bras croisés et son regard constant mais il y a aussi un petit ‘quelque chose’ d’autre dans ses lèvres. This is my father, Marcel, at the age of 7 or so. I found an old tattered photo of this little boy, my father, and I knew I needed to challenge myself to render it into a pastel portrait.

I remember this moment intently...we were on the ferry crossing from Scotland to Ireland...and I marveled that Ann could manage to concentrate on a book while my eyes were scanning the waters looking for Ireland's distant shore. It was our standing inner joke every time she'd pull out her book!
Brothers

My mother loves telling me stories about her growing up years on the Dubuc farm. These two brothers are right in the thick of some of my favourite of her stories. She remembers them arriving to visit at her parent's home and the long summers spent 'serving' them. They were town boys and farm life was not what they might have preferred!
The following paintings and wood sculpture were part of the exhibit celebrating the Gallery's 10th anniversary October 28th, 2012:

There was a beautiful husky with blue eyes that we'd only see in the winter when he could cross the lake over the ice. We always looked forward to his visits.

Zaheer is a photographic journalist from Pakistan. I have admired his work for many years now. This painting was inspired by one of his photographs. It's twining roots and branches around the sturdy trunk reminded me of my father and I. I still cling to his strength today although he has been gone from us for a number of years now.
Sometimes life is about looking over your shoulder...

Quetzalkcoatl
Butternut (relative of oak)
Aztec legend Quetzalcoatl was the Feathered Serpent who represented life, motion, laughter, health, sexuality, and the arts and crafts of civilization, such as farming, cooking, and music. This character caught my interest some time ago during one of my readings.
